About CVGA

The Central Virginia Genealogical Association (CVGA) was formed in July 1977, to encourage, foster, and organize genealogical research, teaching, publishing, education, and recording. CVGA received its charter as a non-stock, non-profit corporation from the Corporation Commission of the Commonwealth of Virginia on 21 September, 1977.

Membership: Annual dues (electronic newsletter delivery): are $15.00 for individuals, families, and institutions.

Annual dues (print newsletter delivery): are $25.00 for individuals, families, and institutions.

Memberships are for the calendar year. Dues should be mailed to the Treasurer at the CVGA address below, or pay via Paypal using the button below:


Type of membership




CVGA’s primary geographical focus is on the old counties of Albemarle, Augusta, Hanover, and Orange; that is, the present Piedmont counties of Albemarle, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Culpeper, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Hanover, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange, and the Shenandoah Valley counties of Augusta, Page, Rockingham, and Shenandoah.
